Firefox 4.0 Beta 10 has AWFUL font rendering!

Wow. Just took FF beta 10 for a test-drive, and I have got to say, the font rendering is awful. Look at a screenshot of Chrome vs. Firefox:

Visual comparison of Chrome vs. Firefox 4

This may not look like a big deal in such a small sample, but trust me, after browsing for a few minutes, the eye strain was unbearable.

At this rate, I'm pretty sure that IE9 will regain market share after FF4 is released.

I can't agree with you.

Font rendering was awful in FF 4 beta 9, but they did a great job in beta 10 to improve it. All the text was blurry in beta 9 and now it's sharp and clear in beta 10.

I have DirectWrite and Direct2D enabled, also FF 4 beta 10 has new boolean preference 'gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading' set to true by default. And font rendering is much more better than it was in beta 9.

Check your config.

It is not a Firefox issue. It has to do more with DirectWrite which is the new Microsoft font rendering library. It seems to have issues with certain graphic drivers. IE9 uses the exact same font rendering engine and I had the same issue as you did.
